One extended journey around the Australian Coast is being halted in the wake of the death of an older woman who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the tropical location with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a rest. The liner departed without her and went back later that day after the personnel realised the passenger was missing.

A large-scale rescue mission located her remains the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, alongside police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and staff on the vessel were told that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Commander" banning any additional guests from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Chronology of Occurrences

The liner initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the journey at the moment of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the voyage.

Guests on board - who usually pay large sums of dollars to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of hiking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled excursion without my parent".

Through her comments, she characterized her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a bushwalking group.

"From the little information we have been informed, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the organization should have undertaken that might have preserved Mum's being".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a extremely warm day, and mother became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"She was asked her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, apparently without performing a headcount.

Through an announcement, the CEO confirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with authorities to aid their investigation".
